A xenophile is not satisfied with only one sentient species per planet. A xenophile may be forced (after much hopeful fooling around with cetaeceans) to admit that a given planet has only one such species, but will be really ticked off about it. --- Xenophile kids tend to believe in ghosts, goblins, vampires and werewolves because the absence of other species is a far more horrible thing than what a vampire might do to you. (Some xenophile grownups share this tendency.)

SETI is a rational manifestation of xenophilia. So what about UFOmania? I think such UFOmaniacs as ignore any evidence (or lack of it) that they don't like don't get their Xenophilia badges. To a true xenophile, this whole issue is far, far too important to be degraded by mere wishful thinking, and so xenophiles can't afford to ignore anything they might find out, even if they don't like what it implies.

Heavens, how she does go on.
